Sowing Instructions
Sow seeds 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost or throughout the year for greenhouse production.
Surface sow the pelleted seeds and do not cover, as light is required for germination. Maintain temperatures of 18–21°C (64–70°F).
Seedlings are generally ready for transplanting after 4–5 weeks.
For outdoor production, sow from February to May for flowering later the same season, or sow during August to September for overwintering and blooms the following year.
Growing Tips
Grow in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.
Rio naturally produces excellent branching, creating numerous flowering stems with exceptional uniformity and continuous blooming throughout the season.
After the first flush of flowers, cut plants back to ground level to encourage fresh growth and additional harvests.
In mild climates, plants may overwinter and flower again in subsequent years.
Harvest
Harvest stems when approximately 75% of the flowers on each spray are fully open for maximum vase life and post-harvest quality.
For dried flowers, allow all flowers to fully open before harvesting.
