Penstemon digitalis Mystica
Penstemon digitalis Mystica
Mystica attracts butterflies and hummingbirds into the perennial garden and is long lasting as a cut flower.
Offering smooth dark foliage topped with white blooms that have a lavender blush, Mystica, is a workhorse plant. This clump forming perennial produces a large flush of flowers in early summer and if trimmed may rebloom in the fall. Once frost occurs in fall the leaves turn a brilliant red. In warmer zones the foliage will not turn red but will remain an attract purple hue, with colder temperatures providing more saturation. A good choice for the mixed garden border. Has some drought tolerance when established but does better with even moisture. Not a favorite food for deer but they may browse on them. Loved by butterflies and the occasional hummingbird.
