Celosia spicata Celway™ Salmon | Wheat Celosia | Cut Flower

Celosia Celway™ Salmon is an elegant cut flower variety with slender, feathery flower spikes in soft salmon, peach and warm pink tones. The delicate colouring combined with the distinctive wheat-like flower shape adds beautiful texture and movement to bouquets.

Plants have an upright, productive habit with strong stems and produce one main flower spike surrounded by several smaller spikes, creating a naturally full appearance. Celway™ Salmon is excellent for both fresh bouquets and dried flower arrangements.

This colour is slightly shorter than some other varieties in the Celway™ series.

What Colour is Celway™ Salmon?

Celway™ Salmon has warm, sophisticated flower spikes in a soft salmon to peach-pink colour.

The colour can show subtle variations of:

  • Soft salmon
  • Peach
  • Warm blush pink
  • Peachy-pink undertones

Its muted, warm colouring makes Celway™ Salmon particularly beautiful in romantic and late-summer bouquets and easy to combine with cream, apricot, blush pink, burgundy and other warm tones.

How to Grow Celway™ Salmon from Seed

For cut flower production, starting the seeds indoors and transplanting is recommended.

Sow approximately 6–8 weeks before planting outdoors. Sow into plug trays or other seedling containers on the surface of a fine, moist growing medium.

Celosia seeds require light for germination, so cover them only very lightly. Keep the growing medium evenly moist and avoid heavy watering that could displace the small seeds.

Germination

  • Germination time: 8–14 days
  • Germination temperature: 21–27°C
  • Light: Required for germination
  • Seedling temperature after germination: approximately 17–20°C

Once established, provide seedlings with plenty of light and good air circulation.

Harden the young plants gradually and transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.

Direct sowing is possible in regions with a long, warm growing season, but transplanting is generally more reliable.

Growing Information

Choose a warm, sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. A soil pH of approximately 6.0–7.0 is preferred.

Space plants approximately 15–30 cm apart. Closer spacing can encourage straighter stems for cut flower production, while wider spacing allows plants more room to branch.

Celosia is sensitive to cold. Low temperatures combined with short days can encourage premature flowering, so avoid planting young plants outdoors too early.

Should Celway™ Salmon Be Pinched?

Pinching is recommended if you want more branching and a greater number of cut flower stems.

When plants are approximately 15 cm tall, remove the central growing tip. This encourages the plant to develop several side branches instead of producing primarily one central stem.

For cut flower growers, pinching can result in:

  • More stems per plant
  • Better branching
  • More uniform flowers
  • A fuller harvest

If a single strong central stem is preferred, plants can also be grown without pinching.

Harvesting for Cut Flowers

For fresh flowers, harvest when the flower spikes are fully developed and the stems are firm at the base of the bloom.

Celway™ Salmon has a vase life of approximately 7–14 days under good conditions.

For dried flowers, harvest at approximately the same stage. Remove the foliage and hang the stems upside down in a dark, dry and well-ventilated place until completely dried.

The flower spikes retain their distinctive shape and warm colour beautifully, making Celway™ Salmon especially useful for dried arrangements.

Celway™ Salmon for Cut Flower Gardens

Celosia Celway™ Salmon combines excellent productivity with an unusual soft salmon-peach colour and distinctive wheat-shaped flower spikes.

Its strong stems, compact upper foliage and multiple flower spikes make it particularly useful for professional and home cut flower production. The flowers add texture, height and movement to bouquets while working beautifully both fresh and dried.

For a cut flower garden, Celway™ Salmon is an excellent choice for summer and late-summer bouquets, wedding floristry and warm pastel arrangements.
