Zinnia marylandica Double Zahara™ White | Double Zinnia
Double Zahara™ White is a compact, exceptionally floriferous zinnia with large, fully double, radiant white flowers. It combines beautiful blooms with excellent garden performance and strong disease resistance, making it an easy and reliable choice for flower beds, borders and containers.
The Double Zahara™ series was developed for continuous colour throughout the season and performs particularly well in sunny, hot and dry conditions. Plants have a neat, mounded yet upright habit and reach approximately 41–51 cm in both height and width.
Double Zahara™ White produces larger and fuller double flowers than comparable varieties. Occasionally, up to approximately 2% of plants may develop a soft pink blush in the flowers, adding a subtle natural variation.

How to Grow from Seed
Double Zahara™ White is an easy-to-grow annual zinnia and grows quickly in warm conditions.
Sow the seeds in trays, cells or small pots filled with a fine, moist seed-starting substrate. Sow 1 seed per cell and cover the seed with a light layer of substrate or vermiculite.
Keep the substrate evenly moist during germination, but avoid excessive moisture.
The recommended germination temperature is approximately 20–23°C. The breeder's germination table indicates only 2–3 days from 50% to maximum germination, rather than giving a complete sowing-to-germination period, so this should not be interpreted as all seeds germinating within 2–3 days.
Allow approximately 3 weeks for young plant development before transplanting.
Once the seedlings are established and outdoor conditions are warm enough, gradually acclimatise them before planting outside.
Planting and Growing
Plant Double Zahara™ White in full sun for the strongest plants and best flowering.
Space plants approximately 20–25 cm apart. Their naturally compact, rounded habit makes them particularly suitable for the front or middle of flower beds, borders and containers.
Double Zahara™ performs exceptionally well during sunny, hot and dry weather, making it a particularly useful variety for summer gardens and containers.
Once established, the plants produce abundant flowers over a long season.
Fully Double White Flowers
Double Zahara™ White produces large, fully double flowers in a clean, radiant white.
The dense layers of petals give each bloom a full, rounded appearance, creating considerably more visual impact than a typical single-flowered zinnia.
High light levels are particularly beneficial: the breeder notes that flowers develop greater doubleness and more intense colour under high light conditions.
A small percentage of plants – up to approximately 2% – may naturally produce flowers with some pink blushing.
Excellent Disease Resistance
One of the major advantages of the Double Zahara™ series is its strong disease resistance.
This makes the series particularly useful for garden beds and containers where zinnias need to remain attractive throughout the summer.
Avoid keeping the foliage and flowers excessively wet. Good air circulation and sensible watering help reduce conditions favourable to Botrytis. The breeder specifically recommends avoiding excessive moisture on both plants and flowers.
Perfect for Containers and Garden Beds
With a mature height of approximately 41–51 cm, Double Zahara™ White is much more compact than tall cutting zinnias such as Benary's Giant.
Its neat size makes it particularly suitable for:
- Flower beds and borders
- Mass plantings
- Patio containers and large pots
- Sunny balcony containers
- Mixed seasonal plantings
The bright white flowers are especially beautiful alongside pink, apricot, salmon, lavender, blue and deep burgundy flowers.
Why Grow Double Zahara™ White?
Double Zahara™ White combines fully double white flowers, compact growth, excellent disease resistance and outstanding performance in hot, sunny conditions.
Unlike tall zinnias grown primarily for cutting, Double Zahara™ is designed to create a dense, long-lasting display of flowers in the garden or containers.
Its manageable 41–51 cm height, abundant flowering and ability to perform through summer heat make it an excellent choice for both experienced gardeners and beginners.
