Zinnia elegans Zinnita Orange | Dwarf Zinnia
Zinnia Zinnita Orange is a compact, early-flowering dwarf zinnia developed especially for pots, containers, borders and colourful summer bedding.
Growing only around 18 cm tall, Zinnita Orange forms a neat, compact plant covered with vibrant orange flowers approximately 5 cm in diameter.
Unlike traditional tall Zinnia elegans varieties grown mainly for cut flowers, Zinnita has been selected for its naturally short and compact growth habit, making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens, balconies, terraces and the front of flower borders.

Only 18 cm tall • Compact dwarf variety • Bright orange flowers • Perfect for pots and containers • Excellent for border edges • Early flowering • Fast 6–8 week crop • Easy to grow • Loves full sun
A True Dwarf Zinnia for Pots
Zinnita Orange is particularly valuable for gardeners looking for a genuinely compact zinnia.
While many Zinnia elegans varieties can reach 60–100 cm or more, Zinnita Orange stays at approximately 18 cm tall.
Its naturally compact habit makes it perfect for growing in:
Flower pots • Balcony containers • Window boxes • Mixed containers • Border edges • Raised beds • Small gardens
The plants remain low and neat while producing colourful flowers above the foliage.
Bright Orange Flowers
Zinnita Orange produces cheerful bright orange flowers approximately 5 cm across.
The warm orange colour creates a strong summer display and combines beautifully with yellow, cream, white, pink, burgundy and purple flowers.
Try combining it with compact varieties of:
Tagetes • Petunia • Salvia • Verbena • Lobelia • Alyssum • Ornamental grasses
It is also an excellent choice for warm-toned summer container combinations.
Early and Fast Flowering
One of the biggest advantages of the Zinnita series is its short production time.
Under good spring growing conditions, plants can develop from sowing to flowering in approximately:
6–8 weeks.
Zinnita Orange is therefore an excellent choice when you want fast summer colour without waiting months for the plants to mature.
High light levels and warm temperatures encourage faster development.
Easy to Grow from Seed
Zinnias are among the easiest summer annuals to grow from seed, making Zinnita Orange suitable for both experienced gardeners and beginners.
Seeds germinate quickly in warm conditions, and the plants grow rapidly once temperatures rise.
They can be started indoors or sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed and the danger of frost has passed.
Sowing and Growing Guide
When to Sow
For earlier flowering, sow indoors approximately 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost.
For direct sowing outdoors, wait until the danger of frost has passed and both the soil and weather have become reliably warm.
Zinnias are warm-season plants and should not be exposed to frost.
How to Sow
Sow:
1 seed per cell or small pot.
Cover the seed lightly with vermiculite or fine growing medium.
Zinnita Orange can also be direct sown into the garden.
Germination
Recommended germination temperature:
21–24°C
Under good conditions, the first signs of germination can appear in approximately:
3–5 days.
Light is not required for germination.
Keep the growing medium consistently moist during germination, but avoid prolonged waterlogging.
After seedlings have emerged, provide plenty of light and good air circulation.
After Germination
Once seedlings are established, they can be grown slightly cooler at approximately 18–20°C.
Avoid temperatures below approximately 12°C, particularly during early development, as cold conditions can result in slow and uneven growth.
Give seedlings as much light as possible to encourage strong, compact plants.
Planting Outdoors
Plant outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
Choose a location with:
Full sun.
Zinnias flower most abundantly in warm, sunny positions.
Use fertile but well-drained soil. Avoid locations where the soil remains constantly wet.
Growing in Pots
Zinnita Orange is particularly well suited to container growing.
Use a good-quality, well-drained potting mix and choose containers with drainage holes.
Because the plants remain only around 18 cm tall, they are excellent for smaller pots as well as larger mixed containers.
Keep container-grown plants regularly watered during hot weather, as pots dry considerably faster than garden soil.
Watering
Water young plants regularly while they establish.
Once established, water when the upper layer of soil begins to dry.
Whenever possible, water around the base of the plant rather than repeatedly wetting the foliage.
Good spacing and air circulation help keep zinnias healthy.
Feeding
Zinnita Orange does not require heavy feeding.
When growing in containers, use a balanced fertilizer for flowering plants during the growing season.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage lush foliage at the expense of flowering.
Encourage More Flowers
Removing faded flowers regularly helps keep plants attractive and encourages continued flowering.
With regular care, Zinnita Orange can provide colour throughout the summer and into early autumn, until colder weather and frost arrive.
Perfect for Small Spaces
Because Zinnita Orange remains compact, you don't need a large garden to grow zinnias successfully.
It is an excellent choice for:
Balconies • Terraces • Patios • Small gardens • Raised beds • Container gardens • Border edges
The combination of compact growth and quick flowering makes it especially useful where traditional tall zinnias would simply be too large.
Perfect For
Pots • Containers • Window boxes • Border edges • Summer bedding • Raised beds • Small gardens • Balcony gardens • Mixed container arrangements
