Harvesting Oklahoma White

Zinnias should be harvested when the flowers are well developed and the stems are sufficiently mature and firm.

Do not judge harvest readiness solely by how open the flower looks. Instead, check the firmness of the stem using the simple “wiggle test.”

Hold the stem approximately 20–25 cm below the flower and gently shake it.

If the stem remains stiff and the flower head stays relatively stable, the flower is ready to harvest.

If the stem bends easily and the flower head wobbles strongly, allow it to mature on the plant for a little longer.

Harvest during the cooler part of the day, preferably early morning or evening, and place the stems immediately into clean water.

Under good post-harvest conditions, Oklahoma White can have an approximate vase life of 7–10 days.
