Zinnia elegans Benary's Giant Wine | Premium Zinnia
Luxurious, fully double flowers in a rich wine-red to deep burgundy shade, carried on long, strong stems – an exceptional zinnia for sophisticated summer bouquets and professional cut flower production.
Zinnia elegans 'Benary's Giant Wine' belongs to the renowned Benary's Giant Series, one of the most trusted zinnia series among professional flower farmers and florists. This striking variety produces large, densely petalled blooms in an elegant deep wine-red and burgundy colour.
The impressive flowers can reach approximately 12 cm in diameter and are carried on tall, sturdy stems ideal for cutting. The rich, dramatic colour is particularly beautiful in late-summer and autumn-inspired bouquets and combines wonderfully with blush pink, apricot, peach, cream, bronze and other deep jewel tones.
Benary's Giant Wine is vigorous, productive and exceptionally valuable for flower farms and cutting gardens. Regular harvesting encourages plants to continue producing new flowering stems throughout the summer until the first frost.

Sowing
Indoor Sowing
Sow approximately 4 weeks before the last expected spring frost.
Sow 1 seed per cell and cover lightly with vermiculite or fine growing medium.
Maintain a temperature of approximately 21–24°C. Under suitable conditions, germination usually occurs within 3–5 days.
Zinnias grow quickly and should not be allowed to become root-bound. Transplant carefully, as unnecessary disturbance to the roots can stress young plants.
Direct Sowing
Benary's Giant Wine can also be direct-sown outdoors once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed.
Sow approximately 5–6 mm deep.
For a continuous supply of premium cut flowers throughout the summer, make succession sowings every 2–3 weeks.
Growing & Care
Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
Zinnias thrive in warm conditions and are very sensitive to frost. Plant outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed.
Water deeply at the base of the plants and provide good air circulation. Avoid regularly wetting the foliage.
Pinching young plants encourages branching and increases the number of flowering stems. Regular cutting and deadheading stimulate continuous flower production throughout the season.
Harvesting for Cut Flowers
Harvest when the flower is almost fully open and the stem is firm.
Use the “wiggle test” to check whether the flower is ready: gently shake the stem approximately 20 cm below the bloom. If the stem remains stiff and the flower head does not wobble excessively, it is ready to harvest.
Cut deeply into the plant to encourage the development of strong new flowering stems.
Vase life: approximately 7–10 days.
Zinnias are sensitive to cold storage and should not be stored at very low temperatures.
