Sowing
Sowing method: Transplanting recommended
Germination temperature: 17–20°C
Germination: approximately 4–14 days
Sowing time: 7–9 weeks before planting outdoors
Sow seeds into a fine, moist seed-starting substrate and cover lightly. Maintain even moisture during germination. Bottom watering or gentle misting helps prevent the small seeds from being displaced.
When the first true leaves appear, transplant seedlings into individual cells or larger containers.
Harden plants gradually before planting outdoors. Violas tolerate light frost, making them particularly valuable for early spring and autumn displays.
Direct sowing is not recommended for reliable commercial-quality plants.
Growing
Plant in rich, fertile and well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.

Violas prefer cooler growing conditions. Regular deadheading encourages plants to continue producing new flowers and helps maintain an attractive appearance.

A Viola for Pots – and for Cutting
When grown as a compact bedding crop, Floral Power™ Plum Antique remains low and tidy. However, under suitable conditions, especially from overwintered or very early spring plantings, plants can develop considerably longer flowering stems.
Longer spring days and warmer temperatures encourage stem elongation and abundant flowering. Under protected overwintered production, stems may reach approximately 30–50 cm, allowing the flowers to be used in delicate seasonal bouquets and small floral arrangements.
For cutting, harvest when stems are sufficiently long and at least one flower is open.
Edible Flowers
The fully opened flowers can also be harvested as edible flowers, making Plum Antique attractive for decorating cakes, desserts, salads and other culinary presentations.
Only flowers grown specifically for edible use and without unsuitable plant-protection products should be consumed.
