Sutera cordata Blutopia® | Bacopa | Seeds
Sutera cordata Blutopia® is a seed-grown trailing Bacopa with masses of delicate lavender-blue flowers and a naturally spreading, mounded habit. Developed for reliable production from seed, Blutopia® combines the familiar appearance of traditional blue Bacopa with the convenience of Multi-Seed Pellets, making sowing and plug production easier and more uniform.
Compact in height but strongly spreading, Blutopia® grows to approximately 15 cm tall and 46–61 cm wide. Its cascading growth makes it an excellent choice for hanging baskets, window boxes, large planters, mixed containers and the edges of raised pots, where the flowering stems can trail naturally over the sides.
Blutopia® produces abundant lavender-blue to blue-purple flowers against fresh green foliage. It flowers through the cool parts of the growing season and performs particularly well in spring and autumn, while continuing to provide colour through summer under suitable growing conditions.

Lavender-Blue Flowers
Blutopia® produces charming lavender-blue flowers with blue-purple tones, creating the classic appearance associated with blue Bacopa varieties.
The flowers are carried freely over the spreading green foliage, creating a soft carpet of colour. Blutopia® has slightly smaller leaves than Snowtopia®, similar to the foliage typically seen in vegetatively propagated blue Bacopa varieties.
Its combination of delicate flowers and fine foliage gives the plant a light, refined appearance that works particularly well in mixed container arrangements.
Trailing and Mounded Habit
Blutopia® develops a naturally mounded, spreading and trailing habit.
Although plants reach only around 15 cm in height, they can spread approximately 46–61 cm, allowing stems to cascade beautifully from containers and hanging baskets.
This growth habit makes Blutopia® particularly useful around the edges of mixed planters, where it can soften the container and trail between or below more upright plants.
It is also attractive planted alone in hanging baskets, where its spreading stems can develop into a full flowering display.
One of the First Bacopas from Seed
A particularly interesting feature of Blutopia® is that it was developed as a seed-grown Bacopa, providing an alternative to traditionally vegetatively propagated blue Bacopa varieties.
The seed is supplied as Multi-Seed Pellets, making individual sowing easier and allowing several seedlings to establish together from each pellet.
For professional growers, seed propagation offers easier crop scheduling and efficient production.
Blutopia® also develops its naturally branching, mounded habit without requiring pinching, helping shorten and simplify the production cycle.
Multi-Seed Pelleted Seeds
Blutopia® seeds are supplied as Multi-Seed Pellets.
Each pellet contains multiple seeds, designed to produce a fuller young plant from a single sowing position.
Sow one multi-seed pellet per cell into a fine, good-quality seed-starting substrate. Maintain even moisture during germination and early plant development.
Because the seed is pelleted, it is particularly important not to allow the pellet to dry out during the initial germination period.
Fast Crop Development
Blutopia® has been selected for efficient and relatively quick production.
Plug crop time: approximately 3–4 weeks
Transplant to finished plant: approximately 4–6 weeks
This means plants can develop quickly under suitable professional growing conditions.
The naturally branching habit also means pinching is not required, simplifying production and helping plants develop their characteristic spreading form naturally.
Growing Conditions
Blutopia® performs well in sun to partial sun.
For the best growth and flowering, provide a fertile, well-drained growing medium and maintain consistent, even moisture. Bacopa prefers regular watering and should not be allowed to remain excessively dry for long periods.
At the same time, good drainage is important. Avoid permanently waterlogged substrate.
Blutopia® performs well in average to rich soils and has good heat tolerance, making it useful for seasonal containers and summer displays.
Excellent for Hanging Baskets and Containers
The naturally trailing habit makes Blutopia® especially suitable for container growing.
Use it in:
Hanging baskets • Window boxes • Patio containers • Large planters • Mixed containers • Balcony planting • Container edges
In mixed containers, Blutopia® works particularly well as the trailing element around taller or more upright plants.
The soft lavender-blue flowers combine beautifully with white, pale pink, purple, apricot, yellow and silver foliage, making the variety easy to incorporate into many container colour schemes.
Attractive to Pollinators
The flowers can attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, adding further value when Blutopia® is used in flowering container displays and pollinator-friendly garden plantings.
Its long flowering performance and spreading habit make it particularly useful for adding low-growing colour around other seasonal plants.
