Basil SimplyHerbs™ Try Basil | Ocimum basilicum | Precision™ Multi-Pellets
SimplyHerbs™ Try Basil is an easy-to-grow basil developed especially for reliable and uniform production in pots and hydroponic systems. Instead of ordinary loose seed, it is supplied as Precision™ Multi-Pellets, making sowing simple and helping to create full, evenly growing plants.
The plants have an upright habit and reach approximately 61–76 cm in height, making them suitable for growing in containers as well as in the garden.
What Does SimplyHerbs™ Mean?
SimplyHerbs™ is a range of popular culinary herbs designed to make growing herbs from seed easier and more uniform.
Selected SimplyHerbs™ varieties are supplied as Precision™ Multi-Pellets. These include basil, Try Basil, dill, curled parsley, Italian flat-leaf parsley, rosemary and sage.
The concept is particularly useful for growing herbs in pots and hydroponic systems, where an even, full plant is desirable.
What Are Precision™ Multi-Pellets?
A Precision™ Multi-Pellet contains multiple seeds combined into one easy-to-handle pellet rather than supplying each tiny seed separately.
This means you sow one pellet instead of several individual seeds, helping to produce a naturally fuller group of seedlings.
For home gardeners, the main advantages are:
- Easier and more convenient sowing
- No need to handle several individual seeds
- Several seedlings can emerge from one pellet
- Helps create fuller, more uniform plants
- Particularly convenient for growing herbs in pots
- Well suited to hydroponic growing
Important: One Multi-Pellet is not one seed. It contains multiple seeds, so several seedlings may emerge from a single pellet.
Plant Information
- Scientific Name: Ocimum basilicum
- Common Name: Basil
- Series: SimplyHerbs™
- Variety: Try Basil
- Seed Form: Precision™ Multi-Pellets
- Plant Habit: Upright
- Height: 61–76 cm

- Exposure: Full Sun
- Days to Maturity from Transplant: approx. 28 days
- Suitable For: Pots, containers, garden & hydroponic growing
Ideal for Pots & Hydroponic Growing
SimplyHerbs™ Try Basil performs particularly well in pots and hydroponic systems. Precision™ Multi-Pellets help produce more uniform groups of seedlings, making it easier to grow attractive, full basil plants.
It can also be grown directly in the garden in a warm, sunny position.
Sowing & Growing
Sow one Precision™ Multi-Pellet into each desired growing position or cell. Keep the growing medium evenly moist during germination so that the pellet can soften and the seeds inside can germinate successfully.
- Sowing: Place the Multi-Pellet onto moist seed-starting mix and cover lightly.
- Moisture: Keep consistently moist during germination, but avoid waterlogging.
- After germination: Move seedlings to a bright, warm location.
- Transplanting outdoors: Plant outside only after all danger of frost has passed.
- Spacing: Approx. 30–41 cm
- Position: Full sun
- Growing: Suitable for pots, containers, hydroponics and garden beds
Because each Multi-Pellet contains several seeds, there is normally no need to separate the seedlings if the goal is to grow a full, bushy herb plant in a pot.
