Pentas lanceolata Northern Lights® F1 | Egyptian Starcluster
Pentas lanceolata Northern Lights® F1 is a beautiful, professional-quality Pentas series producing large, open clusters of star-shaped flowers in harmonious colours. Specially selected for reliable growth and flowering at cooler temperatures, it is an excellent choice for both containers and sunny garden plantings.

Sowing
For summer flowering, sow indoors from late winter to spring.
- Sow 1 pellet per plug or cell
- Place the seed on the surface of the growing medium
- Do not cover
- Keep the substrate consistently moist during germination
- Provide warmth and good air circulation
- Transplant outdoors only after the risk of frost has passed
Germination
Under optimal conditions, germination begins in approximately 7–10 days.
- Germination temperature: 23–26°C
- Cover: None
- Light: Not essential, but additional light can improve seedling quality and uniformity
- Recommended substrate pH: 6.2–6.5
Once germination is complete and the seedlings are established, temperatures can gradually be reduced. Avoid growing-medium temperatures below 16°C during early development, as this can significantly slow germination and growth.
From Seed to Flower
Northern Lights® F1 has a spring crop time of approximately 14–17 weeks, equivalent to around 100–120 days from sowing to flowering under suitable conditions.
This is a day-neutral variety, meaning flowering does not depend on a specific day length. However, high light levels and 14–16 hour days, particularly during the seedling stage, can significantly shorten the overall crop time.
Additional lighting during winter production can shorten the crop by approximately 2–3 weeks.
Growing Conditions
Choose a warm, bright and sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil or growing medium.
Keep the substrate evenly moist but avoid prolonged waterlogging. Once plants are established, allow the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings.
One of the advantages of Northern Lights® F1 is its ability to grow and flower successfully at cooler temperatures compared with many traditional Pentas varieties. Warmer conditions will generally encourage faster development and earlier flowering.
Growing in Pots
With a height of approximately 53 cm, Northern Lights® F1 makes an impressive container plant for patios, balconies and terraces.
Regular watering and feeding during active growth will encourage strong plants and abundant flowering throughout the summer.
Perfect For
- Patio pots
- Balcony containers
- Mixed summer containers
- Sunny flower beds
- Landscape planting
- Pollinator-friendly gardens
Pentas lanceolata Northern Lights® F1 combines large star-shaped flower clusters, long-lasting summer colour and excellent garden performance with the ability to grow and flower under cooler conditions. A beautiful and reliable choice for sunny pots, containers and garden plantings.
