Large Double Flowers for Cutting

Alissa Lavender F1 combines generously filled flowers with sturdy stems. The firm petals help reduce damage during handling, while the lavender colour pairs beautifully with white, cream, blush pink and fresh green foliage.

Group 1 identifies its flowering response within professional lisianthus production. It is useful when planning a crop, but does not indicate frost hardiness.

Sowing & Germination

Lisianthus develops slowly at first, so start seeds indoors well ahead of the intended flowering season. Provide additional light when sowing during periods of low natural light.

  • Sow one pelleted seed per cell, preferably in deep plug trays.
  • Place seeds on the surface of a fine, moist seed-starting medium.
  • Do not cover the seeds.
  • Keep the surface consistently moist so the pellet coating can dissolve.
  • The breeder recommends a soil temperature of approximately 21°C during germination.
  • After seedlings are established, grow on at approximately 17–20°C with good light and ventilation.

The breeder also recommends a three-week treatment at 5–8°C after sowing, before moving the trays into warmer conditions, to improve germination uniformity and reduce rosetting. This is a controlled propagation technique.

Avoid prolonged high temperatures during early growth, as these can cause seedlings to form a low rosette and delay stem development.

Transplanting & Care

Transplant when seedlings have four true leaves, before their roots become crowded. Handle the roots carefully and plant at the same depth as in the tray.

Grow in fertile, well-drained soil and maintain even moisture, particularly while plants establish. Avoid waterlogging and excessive nitrogen feeding. Support netting helps keep the long flowering stems upright.

Flowering time varies with growing conditions. Warmer temperatures, stronger light and longer days generally encourage faster development; the breeder’s guide does not provide a fixed sowing-to-flowering period for this variety.

Cutting for the Vase

Harvest stems when two to three flowers are open. Place them promptly in clean water and use cut-flower food to support vase life.

Alissa Lavender F1 is a beautiful choice for gardeners who want elegant, double lisianthus flowers for home-grown bouquets.
