Digitalis purpurea Dalmatian White F1 | Foxglove | Pelleted Seeds

Digitalis purpurea Dalmatian White F1 is an elegant, early-flowering foxglove with white, bell-shaped flowers arranged along upright flower spikes. Part of the Dalmatian F1 Series, it flowers in the first year from seed when sown early and grown under suitable conditions, without requiring vernalisation.

The series is valued for its uniform height, early flowering and full, well-branched habit. Compact foliage and high-quality flower spikes make Dalmatian White a beautiful choice for cottage gardens, white gardens, perennial borders and larger containers.

Elegant White Flower Spikes

Dalmatian White produces graceful, bell-shaped flowers on strong, upright spikes. The white blooms bring brightness to garden plantings and combine beautifully with cream, soft pink, apricot, lavender and blue flowers.

Against green foliage, the white flower spikes create a fresh, elegant contrast. Their upright form adds height and structure to mixed borders, while the compact foliage keeps the planting neat and balanced.

Early Flowering & Uniform Growth

The Dalmatian F1 Series has been bred for early flowering and uniform plant height, helping create a consistent display when several plants are grown together.

Dalmatian White develops a full, well-branched habit with attractive foliage and high-quality flower spikes. Its ability to flower in the first year makes it especially appealing for gardeners who want to enjoy foxgloves during the first growing season.

No cold period is required to initiate flowering. Early sowing, sufficient light and suitable temperatures help support first-year flowering.

Sowing & Germination

Dalmatian White is supplied as pelleted seed, making the naturally tiny foxglove seeds easier to handle and sow precisely.

Sowing: Indoors for transplanting
Seeds per Cell: 1 pelleted seed
Sowing Depth: Surface sow
Cover Seed: No; light supports germination
Germination Temperature: 18–20°C
Germination Time: Approximately 5–6 days
Plug Crop Time: 5–6 weeks

Sow one pelleted seed per cell onto the surface of a fine, moist seed-starting substrate. Do not cover with compost.

Keep the substrate evenly moist so the pellet coating can dissolve completely. Avoid drying out during germination and do not allow the substrate to become waterlogged.

After germination, provide good light and ventilation. Temperatures can gradually be reduced to 16–18°C.

Crop Timing

Plug Production: 5–6 weeks
Transplant to Finish: 10–14 weeks

These production stages give an approximate total crop time of 15–20 weeks. “Transplant to finish” refers to the time needed to produce a finished plant; the exact flowering date depends on temperature, light, daylength and growing conditions.

Light & Daylength

Dalmatian White is a facultative long-day plant, meaning longer days encourage flowering. A light period of approximately 14 hours supports flower initiation.

Early indoor sowing followed by increasing spring daylight helps promote flowering during the first growing season.

Container Growing

The full habit, compact foliage and upright flower spikes make Dalmatian White particularly suitable for large containers of approximately 4–8 litres or more.

Use a fertile, well-drained growing medium and maintain even moisture. Place containers in a bright, sunny position.

Growing Conditions & Care

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing plants approximately 30 cm apart.

Maintain consistent moisture, especially during flower spike development. Avoid severe drought and prolonged waterlogging.

Removing faded flower spikes may encourage additional flowering under favourable conditions. The bell-shaped flowers attract bumblebees and other pollinators.

Important: All parts of Digitalis purpurea are poisonous if ingested. Keep seeds and plants away from children and pets.
