Delphinium semibarbatum ‘Citrina’ | Zalil
Rare species delphinium · Lemon-yellow blooms
Delphinium semibarbatum ‘Citrina’, also known as Zalil, is a rare and striking species delphinium originating from Afghanistan and Iran. It produces long, slender flower spikes covered in clear lemon-yellow florets, an unusual and highly sought-after colour in delphiniums.
Uniquely, most florets open simultaneously, creating a dramatic and eye-catching display. In its native Persia, the flowers were traditionally used for dyeing silk. This species is also notable for its tuberous roots, similar to dahlias, rather than the fibrous roots typical of most delphiniums.
Despite its origins in arid regions, ‘Citrina’ performs best in average to slightly moist soil. In warmer climates, partial shade helps prevent summer dormancy and ensures prolonged flowering.
