Cosmos sulphureus Cosmic Red is a compact, fast-growing annual with vibrant deep red to red-orange flowers and a naturally rounded, well-branched habit. Reaching only around 28 cm in height, it is perfect for pots, containers, borders and colourful summer plantings.

Cosmic Red flowers abundantly and attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. It loves warm, sunny conditions and can reach flowering size in approximately 49–56 days under suitable growing conditions.

Sowing & Growing

Sow 1–3 seeds per plug or small pot and lightly cover with vermiculite or fine substrate. Keep evenly moist until germination.

After germination, grow at approximately 16–18°C and provide plenty of light. Avoid excessive warmth and overwatering, as cooler temperatures and moderate moisture help maintain compact growth.

Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Choose a sunny, warm position with well-drained soil.

Care

Cosmos prefers moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings and avoid constantly wet conditions.

Feed moderately with a balanced fertiliser. Excessive nitrogen can produce lush foliage and reduce flowering.

Pinching is generally not required, as Cosmic Red naturally develops a compact and well-branched shape.

Flowering

Cosmic Red produces an abundance of warm red-orange flowers throughout summer. Removing faded flowers regularly encourages continued flowering and keeps plants looking fresh.

The flowers are attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making this variety a beautiful addition to pollinator-friendly gardens.
