Cosmos sulphureus Cosmic Orange is a compact, fast-growing annual with vibrant bright orange flowers and a naturally rounded, well-branched habit. Growing to approximately 28 cm tall, it is an excellent choice for pots, containers, borders and colourful summer plantings.

Cosmic Orange flowers abundantly throughout summer and attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. It loves warm, sunny conditions and can reach flowering size in approximately 49–56 days under suitable growing conditions.

Sowing & Growing

Sow 1–3 seeds per plug or small pot and lightly cover with vermiculite or fine substrate. Keep evenly moist until germination.

After germination, grow at approximately 16–18°C and provide plenty of light. Avoid excessive warmth and overwatering to encourage strong, compact plants.

Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Choose a warm, sunny position with well-drained soil.

Care

Water moderately and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Cosmos prefers well-drained conditions and does not like constantly wet soil.

Feed moderately with a balanced fertiliser. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage foliage growth at the expense of flowering.

Pinching is generally not required, as Cosmic Orange naturally develops a compact and well-branched shape.

Flowering

Cosmic Orange produces masses of brilliant orange flowers throughout summer. Regularly removing faded blooms encourages continued flowering and keeps the plants looking fresh.

The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making this variety a beautiful choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
