Flowers
Fresh Look Yellow produces dense, upright, feather-like flower plumes in an intense yellow colour.
One of the key qualities of this variety is its excellent colour retention. The flowers do not fade easily under high-light conditions, allowing them to maintain their brilliant appearance throughout the summer.
The combination of compact plants and large flower plumes creates an impressive display without requiring a large amount of garden space.
Sowing
When to sow
For summer flowering, sow indoors in spring, approximately 8–10 weeks before the plants are intended to be planted outside.
Celosia is a heat-loving plant and should only be planted outdoors once the weather has become reliably warm and there is no risk of frost.
How to sow
- Sow 1 seed per cell or plug
- Use a light, well-drained seed-starting substrate
- Cover with a very light layer of vermiculite
- Keep the substrate consistently moist during germination
- Do not allow it to dry out completely
Fresh Look Yellow is supplied as pelleted seed, making the small seeds easier to handle and sow individually.
Germination
Under optimal conditions, germination is very fast.
- First germination: Approximately 2–4 days
- Recommended germination temperature: 22–25°C
- Light: Required for good germination
- Cover: Very light layer of vermiculite
- pH: 5.5–6.0
Keep the substrate warm and evenly moist.
Because light supports germination, do not bury the seeds deeply.
After the seedlings become established, temperatures can gradually be reduced to approximately 18–20°C.
Growing the Seedlings
Young Celosia plants prefer warm conditions, plenty of light and good air circulation.
For the first few weeks, providing days longer than approximately 13 hours helps young plants develop sufficient vegetative growth before flowering begins.
Keep seedlings evenly moist but avoid permanently waterlogged substrate.
Celosia grows quickly in warm conditions and should not be exposed to cold temperatures.
From Seed to Flower
Fresh Look Yellow has a spring crop time of approximately 10–12 weeks, or around 70–85 days under suitable growing conditions.
Warm temperatures and high light levels encourage faster development and flowering.
The actual flowering time will depend on temperature, light, day length and growing conditions.
Planting Outside
Plant outside only after the risk of frost has passed and temperatures are consistently warm.
Choose a sunny, warm and sheltered position.
Celosia performs particularly well during warm summers and produces its strongest flower colour in high light.
Soil
Use fertile but well-drained soil.
Celosia does not like waterlogged conditions. In containers, always make sure excess water can drain freely from the pot.
A soil or growing medium with a slightly acidic pH of approximately 5.5–6.0 is ideal.
Watering
Water regularly, allowing the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings.
Do not allow young plants to dry out completely, but avoid keeping the roots permanently wet.
Good drainage and air circulation help maintain healthy plants.
Fertilization
Celosia benefits from moderate, regular feeding during active growth.
Use a balanced flowering-plant fertilizer according to the manufacturer's recommended rate.
Avoid excessive fertilization, which can encourage too much soft vegetative growth.
Growing in Pots
With a compact height of approximately 33 cm, Fresh Look Yellow is particularly well suited to container growing.
It is excellent for:
- Individual pots
- Patio containers
- Mixed summer containers
- Balcony planters
- Sunny entrance displays
Combine it with plants in white, orange, burgundy, purple or deep green for striking summer combinations.
Garden Use
Fresh Look Yellow creates a strong splash of bright yellow colour in sunny summer plantings.
Its compact habit makes it particularly useful at the front of borders or planted in groups for a larger colour effect.
For the strongest visual impact, several plants can be planted together to create a dense mass of yellow flower plumes.
Ideal For
- Pots
- Patio containers
- Mixed containers
- Balcony gardens
- Sunny flower beds
- Summer borders
- Mass planting
- Landscape planting
Celosia Fresh Look Yellow (Celosia plumosa) is a compact, award-winning variety combining brilliant yellow feathery flower plumes, excellent colour retention and fast summer growth. An excellent choice for anyone looking for intense, long-lasting colour in sunny pots, containers and garden beds.
