Flowers
Fresh Look Orange produces dense, upright, feather-like flower plumes in an intense orange shade.
One of the most valuable characteristics of the Fresh Look series is its excellent colour stability. The flowers retain their vibrant colour even under high-light conditions, helping plants remain attractive throughout the summer.
The combination of large flower plumes and compact growth creates a strong visual impact without requiring much space.
Sowing
When to Sow
For summer flowering, sow indoors in spring, approximately 8–10 weeks before the intended outdoor planting date.
Celosia is a heat-loving plant and is sensitive to cold. Plant outdoors only after the risk of frost has passed and temperatures have become reliably warm.
How to Sow
- Sow 1 seed per plug or cell
- Use a light, well-drained seed-starting substrate
- Cover with only a very thin layer of vermiculite
- Keep the growing medium consistently moist during germination
- Do not allow the substrate to dry out completely
Fresh Look Orange is supplied as pelleted seed, making the small seeds considerably easier to handle and sow individually.
Germination
Fresh Look Orange germinates quickly under warm, suitable conditions.
- Radicle emergence: Approx. 2–4 days
- Germination temperature: 22–25°C
- Light: Required for germination
- Cover: Thin layer of vermiculite
- Substrate pH: 5.5–6.0
Because light is required for germination, avoid covering the seeds too deeply.
Keep the growing medium warm and evenly moist. Once the seedlings become established, the temperature can gradually be reduced to approximately 18–20°C.
Growing the Seedlings
Young Celosia plants require warm temperatures, plenty of light and good air circulation.
During the first stages of growth, providing days longer than approximately 13 hours helps the seedlings develop sufficient vegetative growth and prevents premature flower initiation.
Keep the growing medium evenly moist, but avoid permanently waterlogged conditions.
Celosia is sensitive to low temperatures, so protect young plants from cold.
From Seed to Flower
Fresh Look Orange has a spring crop time of approximately 10–12 weeks, or roughly 70–85 days from sowing to flowering under suitable growing conditions.
Higher light intensity and warm temperatures can accelerate development and flowering.
Actual flowering time will vary depending on:
- Sowing date
- Temperature
- Light intensity
- Day length
- Growing conditions
Planting Outside
Plant Fresh Look Orange outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed.
Choose a warm, sunny position with plenty of direct light.
Celosia performs particularly well during warm summers and develops its strongest colour and best overall growth in sunny conditions.
Soil
Fresh Look Orange prefers fertile, loose and well-drained soil.
Avoid waterlogged conditions. When growing in pots or containers, make sure excess water can drain freely.
A slightly acidic growing medium with a pH of approximately 5.5–6.0 is ideal.
Watering
Water regularly, allowing the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings.
Young plants should never be allowed to dry out completely, but constantly saturated soil should also be avoided.
Good drainage and air circulation help maintain healthy plants.
Fertilization
Celosia benefits from moderate and regular feeding during active growth.
Use a balanced complete fertilizer for flowering plants according to the manufacturer's recommended rate.
Avoid excessive fertilization.
Growing in Pots
With its naturally compact height of approximately 33 cm, Fresh Look Orange is particularly well suited to container growing.
It is excellent for:
- Flower pots
- Patio containers
- Balcony planters
- Mixed summer containers
- Sunny entrance displays
Its vivid orange colour combines beautifully with yellow, cream, white, burgundy, purple and dark foliage.
Garden Use
Fresh Look Orange creates a striking warm orange accent in summer gardens.
Its compact habit makes it particularly useful at the front of borders and in smaller flower beds. Planting several plants together creates a dense mass of brilliant orange flower plumes.
It is also an excellent choice for coordinated summer colour schemes together with other colours from the Fresh Look series.
Ideal For
- Pots
- Balcony planters
- Patio containers
- Mixed containers
- Sunny flower beds
- Borders
- Mass planting
- Summer displays
- Landscape planting
Celosia Fresh Look Orange (Celosia plumosa) combines brilliant orange feathery flower plumes, compact growth, excellent colour retention and a fast 10–12 week crop time. An outstanding summer annual for sunny pots, containers and garden beds.
