Sowing & Germination

Campana Pink Ipd F1 is supplied as pelleted seed, making the naturally small Campanula seeds easier to handle and sow accurately.

Sow 1 pelleted seed per cell onto the surface of a fine, moist seed-starting substrate.

Do not cover the seed, as light is beneficial for germination.

Important – Daylength

Daylength is important when growing Campana for long, high-quality cut flower stems.

For professional production, Campana is initially grown under shorter days, followed by daylengths longer than approximately 14 hours to encourage flowering.

For smaller growers, the main point is simple: avoid encouraging plants to flower too early. Plants that initiate flowers before developing sufficient vegetative growth may produce shorter stems.

For this reason, Campana is particularly well suited to greenhouse and tunnel production, where growing conditions can be managed more easily.

Growing

Grow Campana Pink Ipd in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position.

Maintain consistent moisture during active growth, particularly while plants are developing their long flowering stems.

Avoid allowing plants to dry out repeatedly, as dry conditions can encourage premature flowering and shorter stems. At the same time, avoid waterlogged soil, which can weaken roots and stems.

For professional cut flower production, space plants approximately 10–13 cm apart, or around 64–80 plants per m².

Feeding

Campana requires adequate nutrition to develop long, strong cut flower stems.

Use a balanced complete fertiliser containing micronutrients during active growth.

Regular feeding combined with consistent moisture is more important than very heavy fertilisation. Water or nutrient stress can encourage earlier flowering and reduce stem length.

Support

Because Campana develops long flowering stems, using a support net is recommended for cut flower production.

Support helps keep the stems straight and protects them from bending or falling as the large flowers develop.

Harvesting

For cut flower use, harvest Campana when 2–3 flowers on the stem are fully open.

Place freshly harvested stems into clean, cool water as soon as possible.
