Begonia Nonstop® Joy Mocca White F1 | Begonia tuberhybrida
Begonia Nonstop® Joy Mocca White F1 is an exceptional semi-trailing tuberous begonia combining extra-large, fully double white flowers with striking dark bronze foliage.
Nonstop® Joy is particularly special because it is a semi-trailing tuberous begonia grown from seed. Its gently cascading habit makes it an excellent choice for hanging baskets, elevated containers and premium patio pots, where the flowers can naturally spill over the edges.
Mocca White adds another dramatic feature – deep, dark foliage that creates a beautiful contrast with the pure white flowers.
The plants are naturally well branched, full and balanced, reaching approximately 23 cm in height and 23 cm in width. Once flowering begins, they continue producing impressive blooms throughout the summer.

What Makes Nonstop® Joy Mocca White Special?
Nonstop® Joy Mocca White combines three highly decorative characteristics in one plant:
Semi-trailing growth • Extra-large double flowers • Beautiful dark foliage
Unlike traditional compact upright tuberous begonias, Nonstop® Joy develops a softly cascading habit, allowing flowers and foliage to extend naturally over the sides of containers.
This makes it particularly attractive for hanging baskets and elevated pots.
Extra-Large Double White Flowers
One of the most impressive features of Nonstop® Joy Mocca White is its extra-large, fully double flowers.
The bright white blooms stand out beautifully against the dark foliage, creating a sophisticated and dramatic contrast.
The flowers are produced generously throughout the season, creating a full display rather than only a few individual flowering stems.
Beautiful Dark Foliage
Mocca White combines its white flowers with deep bronze to dark chocolate-coloured foliage.
The foliage is decorative in its own right and provides a striking background for the luminous white flowers.
This combination gives the plant an elegant, contemporary appearance and makes it particularly effective in modern patio and balcony plantings.
Unique Semi-Trailing Habit
The Nonstop® Joy series is distinguished by its semi-trailing growth habit.
Instead of remaining completely upright, the stems gradually arch outward and slightly downward as the plant develops.
The result is a full, rounded plant with a gently cascading appearance – ideal for containers where the growth can naturally extend beyond the edge.
Perfect for Hanging Baskets
Nonstop® Joy Mocca White is particularly well suited to hanging baskets.
Its semi-trailing habit allows the large flowers to be displayed beautifully around the sides of the basket, while the dark foliage provides additional colour and texture.
It is also an excellent choice for:
Hanging Baskets • Patio Pots • Elevated Containers • Window Boxes • Mixed Containers • Balcony Planters
Excellent for Premium Patio Pots
Nonstop® Joy is designed as a versatile container begonia and performs particularly well in larger decorative pots.
A single established plant can develop into a full, rounded specimen, while several plants together can create a spectacular flowering display.
The combination of dark foliage, extra-large white flowers and gently cascading growth makes Mocca White particularly attractive for premium patio containers.
Sowing Guide – Easy Step by Step
Begonia seeds are extremely small, which is why Nonstop® Joy Mocca White is supplied as pelleted seed.
The coating makes individual seeds considerably easier to handle and sow accurately.
1. When to Sow
For summer flowering, sow indoors during winter to early spring.
Tuberous begonias develop relatively slowly from seed, so early sowing gives the plants sufficient time to develop before summer.
From sowing to a finished flowering plant, allow approximately 16–18 weeks under suitable growing conditions.
2. Prepare the Seed Tray
Use a fine, clean and well-drained seed-starting substrate.
Fill plug trays, small pots or seed trays and gently level the surface.
Moisten the substrate thoroughly before sowing.
3. Sow on the Surface
Place 1 pelleted seed per cell on the surface of the moist substrate.
Do not cover the seed with soil.
Begonia seeds require light for germination, so they should remain on the surface.
Gently press the pellet against the moist substrate to ensure good contact without burying it.
4. Keep Warm and Humid
Begonia seeds require warm and consistently humid conditions during germination.
Ideal germination temperature: approximately 22–23°C
Under suitable conditions, roots usually begin to emerge within approximately 7–10 days.
A transparent propagator lid or similar cover can help maintain the high humidity needed during the first stage.
Do not allow the surface of the substrate to dry out during germination.
5. Provide Plenty of Light
Light is important for successful begonia germination.
Place the tray in a bright position without harsh direct sunlight.
When using artificial grow lights, approximately 14–16 hours of light per day encourages good germination and strong seedling development.
Avoid intense direct sunlight on a covered propagator, as temperatures inside can rise rapidly.
6. Water Very Carefully
Newly germinated begonia seedlings are extremely small and delicate.
Water with a fine mist, fine nozzle or another very gentle watering method.
Strong water pressure can easily dislodge young seedlings before their roots are properly established.
Keep the substrate consistently moist during the initial germination stage.
As seedlings develop, gradually allow the surface to become slightly less wet between waterings.
7. After Germination
Once germination is underway, gradually increase ventilation and reduce excessive humidity.
After the first stage, temperatures can be reduced to approximately 20–21°C.
As the seedlings become stronger, around 18–20°C is suitable for continued growth.
Provide plenty of light to encourage strong, compact and well-branched plants.
8. Transplanting
When the seedlings are large enough to handle and have developed several true leaves, carefully transplant them into individual pots.
Young begonia roots are delicate, so handle seedlings gently.
Use a fertile, loose and well-drained growing substrate.
Avoid planting the young plants excessively deep.
9. Growing On
Keep young plants in a bright location at approximately 18–20°C.
Begonias prefer consistent but moderate moisture.
Water thoroughly and then allow the surface of the substrate to dry slightly before watering again.
Avoid both extremes:
Do not keep the roots permanently saturated • Do not allow plants to dry out completely
Good air circulation is also important for healthy development.
Planting Outside
Move plants outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed.
Before placing them permanently outside, gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions over several days.
Choose a location in partial shade or bright shade.
Nonstop® Joy Mocca White is especially effective in areas with filtered light or gentle morning sun, protected from intense midday and afternoon sun.
Light and Position
Nonstop® Joy Mocca White performs beautifully in partial shade.
A bright location with filtered light is ideal for maintaining healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Avoid prolonged exposure to intense midday sun, particularly during very hot weather.
Watering
Begonias appreciate regular moisture but do not tolerate permanently waterlogged soil.
Water when the upper layer of the substrate begins to dry slightly.
Plants grown in hanging baskets and containers may require more frequent watering during warm weather.
Because hanging baskets can dry quickly, check the substrate regularly.
Always ensure that excess water can drain freely from the container.
Feeding
Once plants are actively growing, feed regularly with a balanced fertiliser for flowering plants at a moderate concentration.
Begonias can be sensitive to excessive fertiliser salts, so avoid very strong feeding.
Regular moderate feeding generally produces better results than occasional heavy applications.
Soil and Substrate
Use a fertile, loose and well-drained substrate that retains sufficient moisture without becoming permanently saturated.
High-quality container compost is particularly suitable.
Good drainage is essential, especially when plants are grown in hanging baskets.
Blooms All Summer Long
One of the major advantages of Nonstop® Joy is its long and abundant flowering season.
Once established, the plants continue producing large double flowers throughout the summer under suitable growing conditions.
The combination of abundant flowering and gently cascading growth creates an impressive display that becomes fuller as the season progresses.
Remove damaged or faded flowers when necessary to maintain a clean and attractive appearance.
Ideal for Hanging Baskets and Elevated Containers
Nonstop® Joy Mocca White is particularly effective when planted where its semi-trailing habit can be appreciated.
In hanging baskets and elevated containers, the stems gradually arch over the sides while the extra-large white flowers remain clearly visible.
The dark foliage enhances the effect by creating a dramatic background behind each bloom.
Important – Not Frost Hardy
Tuberous begonias are frost sensitive.
Do not place plants outdoors while there is still a risk of frost.
In colder climates they are generally grown as seasonal summer plants. Mature plants can develop tubers that may be stored in a frost-free location over winter if desired.
Beginner Tips for Success
- Do not cover the seeds – begonias require light for germination.
- Keep the temperature around 22–23°C during germination.
- Maintain consistent moisture during the first germination stage.
- Water tiny seedlings very gently.
- Provide plenty of light after germination.
- Avoid both waterlogging and complete drying.
- Remember that hanging baskets can dry out faster than large pots.
- Plant outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed.
- Grow in partial shade or bright filtered light.
