Agrostemma githago Light rose
Agrostemma githago ‘Light Rose’ is a beautiful annual variety that produces delicate, pale pink flowers on tall, slender stems. Its soft rose-colored blooms bring a gentle charm to cottage gardens, wildflower meadows, and naturalistic planting schemes. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, this easy-to-grow plant attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it perfect for eco-friendly garden designs.
Sowing Instructions:
- Direct Sow: Sow seeds directly where they are to flower.
- Planting Depth and Spacing: Sow 12mm deep in prepared soil with rows spaced 30cm apart.
- Watering: Keep soil well-watered during germination.
- Germination Time: Germination typically takes 7–14 days. Spring-sown seeds will produce seedlings within 6–8 weeks.
- Thinning: Once established, thin seedlings to 30cm spacing.
- Note: This plant is toxic to chickens and may cause miscarriage in pregnant sheep. Avoid sowing in areas grazed by livestock.
Growing Instructions:
- Maintenance: Requires little attention.
- Feeding: No feeding necessary.
- Staking: May benefit from staking in exposed conditions.
- Caution: Do not sow in areas grazed by sheep or chickens.
Cultivation Instructions:
- Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to extend the blooming period.
- Self-Seeding: Leave a few plants to self-seed naturally, or collect seeds for future planting. Other plants can be removed and composted in autumn.
With its soft rose hues and easy maintenance, Agrostemma githago ‘Light Rose’ adds a subtle elegance to garden spaces while supporting local pollinators.
