What Colour is Sophistica® Blackberry?
Sophistica® Blackberry produces exceptionally dark flowers that appear shimmering black with rich reddish-purple undertones.
The exact colour can vary slightly with growing conditions and flower maturity, giving individual blooms subtle variations from deep blackberry and burgundy-purple to almost black.
Under certain cool growing conditions, some yellow colour breaks may occasionally appear.
How to Grow Petunia Sophistica® Blackberry from Seeds
Sophistica® Blackberry is supplied as pelleted seed, making the tiny petunia seeds easier to handle and sow.
Sow the seeds on the surface of a fine, moist seed-starting compost. Do not cover the seeds, as petunia seeds require light for germination. Gently press the pellet onto the surface so it has good contact with the moist growing medium.
Keep the compost consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once seedlings are established, provide plenty of light and good air circulation.
The young plant stage takes approximately 4–5 weeks. After transplanting, allow approximately 5–6 weeks for plants to develop toward flowering under suitable growing conditions.
Growing & Planting
Once the risk of frost has passed, plants can be moved outdoors to a sunny position.
Space plants approximately 25–36 cm apart. Sophistica® Blackberry grows to around 25–38 cm tall and forms a compact, mounded plant approximately 25–30 cm wide.
It is particularly suitable for:
- Pots and larger containers
- Patio and balcony displays
- Flower beds
- Mixed summer containers
For the best flowering, grow in a sunny position, water regularly and feed throughout the flowering season.
Sophistica® Blackberry – A Unique Dark Petunia
Petunia Sophistica® Blackberry F1 is an exceptional choice for gardeners looking for an unusual dark-flowered petunia. Its near-black blooms with reddish-purple undertones create beautiful contrast with white, cream, soft pink, lime green and other pastel flowers.
With its abundant grandiflora blooms, compact mounded habit and remarkable colouring, Sophistica® Blackberry makes an impressive feature in summer pots and container arrangements.
