Oregano SimplyHerbs™ | Origanum vulgare | Precision™ Multi-Pellets
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano is an aromatic Italian-type oregano with dark green foliage and the classic warm, savoury flavour associated with Mediterranean cooking. It is well suited to growing in pots, containers and herb gardens and can also be planted directly in the ground.
The plants develop a spreading, upright habit and can be harvested regularly for fresh culinary use. Once established, oregano is a hardy perennial herb that can provide fresh leaves over many seasons.
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano is supplied as Precision™ Multi-Pellets. Each pellet contains multiple seeds, making sowing easier and helping to produce a fuller group of seedlings from a single pellet. It is particularly convenient for growing herbs directly in pots and containers.
Plants can reach approximately 30–76 cm in height and 30–61 cm in width, depending on growing conditions.

How to Start from Seed
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano can be started in plug trays or sown directly into its final container.
Sow 1 Precision™ Multi-Pellet per cell or pot and cover lightly with growing medium.
Maintain a temperature of approximately 20–21°C during the initial germination stage. Under suitable conditions, germination develops over approximately 5–8 days from 50% to maximum germination.
Keep the growing medium consistently moist until germination. This is particularly important with Multi-Pellets, as sufficient moisture is needed for the pellet coating to break down properly.
Once germination is underway, gradually reduce the temperature to approximately 17–18°C and provide plenty of light.
The plug crop takes approximately 4–5 weeks.
Growing
After the young plants are established, grow SimplyHerbs™ Oregano in a sunny position.
Oregano performs well both in the ground and in containers. For healthy growth, use a well-drained growing medium and avoid keeping established plants excessively wet.
For finishing container plants, suitable temperatures are approximately 16–18°C during the day and 10–13°C at night.
When grown in approximately 10 cm pots, plants can take around 4–5 weeks from plug to finished pot under suitable spring growing conditions.
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano develops a naturally spreading habit and can eventually form a substantial aromatic herb plant.
Harvesting
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano can begin reaching harvestable maturity approximately 28 days after transplanting under suitable growing conditions.
Harvest fresh leaves and young shoots as required. Regular harvesting encourages fresh growth and helps maintain a compact, productive plant.
For the strongest culinary flavour, oregano leaves are particularly aromatic before and around the beginning of flowering.
Leaves can be used fresh or dried for later use.
Culinary Use
Oregano is one of the classic herbs of Mediterranean cooking, valued for its warm, aromatic and savoury flavour.
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano is particularly suitable for:
- Pizza
- Pasta and tomato sauces
- Mediterranean dishes
- Roasted and grilled vegetables
- Meat dishes
- Soups and stews
- Salad dressings and marinades
- Herb oils
SimplyHerbs™ Oregano is an excellent choice for growing fresh oregano in pots, containers or herb gardens. The convenient Precision™ Multi-Pellets, aromatic dark green foliage and suitability for container production make it especially practical for growing fresh herbs at home.
