Elegant Champagne Colour
Arena™ Champagne is especially valued for its soft, sophisticated champagne colouring.
Rather than a strong yellow or pink, the flowers have a delicate neutral appearance with warm creamy, champagne and subtle blush undertones. The colour can appear slightly different depending on growing conditions, light and stage of flower development.
This nuanced colouring makes Arena™ Champagne particularly useful in floristry because it acts as a beautiful transition between warm and cool colours.
It combines exceptionally well with ivory, cream, blush pink, apricot, peach, dusty rose, soft lavender, caramel, burgundy and muted foliage.
Large Double Flowers for Professional Cutting
Arena™ Champagne produces large, elegant double flowers with substantial petals and a luxurious appearance.
The thick petals and strong flower necks help the blooms maintain their form, while the sturdy stems provide the quality required for professional harvesting, handling and floral work.
With stems reaching approximately 70–90 cm, Arena™ Champagne is suitable for hand-tied bouquets as well as larger floral installations and event work.
Group 3 Lisianthus
Arena™ Champagne belongs to Group 3, an important classification when planning lisianthus production.
Group 3 varieties are suited to production periods with warmer temperatures and higher light levels, making them particularly useful for summer flowering and harvest.
Actual flowering time depends on sowing date, temperature, day length, light intensity and overall growing conditions.
When to Sow Lisianthus
Lisianthus develops slowly from seed, so early sowing is important when growing for cut-flower production.
For summer flowering, start seeds indoors or under protection several months before the desired harvest period.
Exact sowing dates should be adjusted according to local climate, growing system and whether the crop will be grown in a greenhouse, tunnel or outdoors.
How to Sow Pelleted Lisianthus Seeds
Lisianthus seeds are extremely small and are commonly supplied as pelleted seeds, making them considerably easier to sow accurately.
Fill plug trays with a fine, moist and well-drained seed-starting substrate.
Place 1 pelleted seed on the surface of each cell and gently press it against the substrate to ensure good contact.
Do not bury the seed. Lisianthus requires light for germination.
If desired, apply only a very thin layer of fine vermiculite while ensuring that light can still reach the seed.
Maintain approximately 20–22°C and keep the substrate evenly moist.
Under suitable conditions, germination takes approximately 20–25 days.
It is particularly important that the pellet does not dry out after sowing. Keep it consistently moist until the coating has softened and dissolved.
Growing the Seedlings
After germination, provide the seedlings with plenty of light, good air circulation and carefully controlled moisture.
Keep the substrate evenly moist but never continuously waterlogged. Good light encourages compact, sturdy seedlings.
Young lisianthus plants are sensitive to excessive heat. Prolonged high temperatures during the early seedling stage can cause rosetting, where plants remain vegetative instead of producing normal flowering stems.
Transplanting
Transplant when seedlings have developed a healthy root system and are large enough to handle.
Lisianthus prefers fertile, well-drained soil and a sunny growing position.
Avoid keeping young plants in plug trays for too long. Transplanting before plants become root-bound encourages better establishment and development.
For professional cut-flower production, plants are generally grown relatively closely together and supported with horizontal flower netting to produce long, straight stems.
Growing Arena™ Champagne
Arena™ Champagne develops strong, upright stems approximately 70–90 cm tall with good branching.
Maintain consistent moisture during active growth while avoiding waterlogged soil. Balanced nutrition and good growing conditions encourage strong stems and high-quality flowers.
As a Group 3 lisianthus, Arena™ Champagne is particularly suitable for warmer production periods with good natural light.
Support netting is recommended when growing for professional-quality cut stems.
Harvesting for Cut Flowers
Harvest when one or more flowers on the stem have opened, adjusting the stage according to the intended use and transport requirements.
Cut stems as long as possible using clean, sharp tools and place them immediately into clean water.
Lisianthus is highly valued for its excellent vase life, strong stems and elegant rose-like flowers.
The neutral champagne colouring of Arena™ Champagne makes it particularly valuable for wedding bouquets, bridal work, romantic garden-style arrangements and sophisticated neutral-toned floristry.
Perfect for Wedding Floristry
Arena™ Champagne is especially beautiful for weddings because its subtle colour works naturally with a wide range of palettes.
It can be combined with ivory and white for classic bridal arrangements, with blush and apricot for romantic pastel bouquets, or with caramel and burgundy for warmer late-summer and autumn designs.
Its soft champagne colouring also makes it an excellent alternative when pure white feels too cool or bright for a composition.
