Rich Violet Flowers for Colourful Bouquets
Piccolo® Violet F1 is a beautiful choice for growers who prefer single-flowered lisianthus. Its open flower cups give arrangements an airy appearance, while the violet colour adds a striking accent.
Pair the flowers with white, cream, soft pink or lavender for harmonious bouquets. Apricot and pale yellow flowers create a more contrasting combination, while fresh green foliage highlights the violet blooms.
The Piccolo® Series
Piccolo® is an established series of single-flowered lisianthus, valued for its delicate flower size, strong stems and lasting quality after cutting.
The series includes varieties in Groups 2 and 3. Piccolo® Violet F1 belongs to Group 2.
Piccolo® is particularly suited to summer production. Year-round production is also possible under controlled greenhouse conditions with supplementary lighting.
Sowing & Seedling Care
Lisianthus grows slowly during its early stages, so allow plenty of time for seedling production.
Sow into a fine, well-drained seed-starting substrate and follow the instructions on the seed packet. Keep the growing medium evenly moist without waterlogging.
If using pelleted seeds, thoroughly moisten the pellet coating so it can dissolve. After germination, provide good light. Indoor winter sowings benefit from supplementary grow lights.
Transplant before roots become crowded in their cells. Handle the root ball gently and maintain the original planting depth.
Growing Conditions & Care
Choose a bright, sheltered growing position with fertile, well-drained soil. Greenhouse cultivation makes it easier to manage temperature, watering and humidity.
Maintain consistent soil moisture and good airflow. Water at the base of the plants to help keep leaves and flowers dry.
A support net helps keep stems straight and supports the plants as they develop and flower.
Harvesting & Vase Care
Cut stems when several flowers have opened. Remove leaves that would sit below the waterline and place the stems promptly into a clean vase with fresh water.
Refresh the water regularly and use cut flower food if available. Careful handling helps preserve the long vase life associated with the Piccolo® series.
