How to Sow Lisianthus Seeds

Lisianthus seeds are extremely small and are supplied as pelleted seeds, making them easier to sow individually.

Sow 1 pelleted seed per cell into a fine, moist and well-drained seed-starting substrate.

Place the pellet directly on the surface and do not cover it, as lisianthus requires light for germination. Gently press the pellet against the moist substrate to ensure good contact.

After sowing, water carefully so that the pellet becomes thoroughly moist and begins to dissolve.

Maintain approximately 18–20°C during germination. Under suitable conditions, germination normally takes approximately 10–14 days.

Do not allow the pellet or substrate to dry out during germination.

Growing the Seedlings

After germination, provide the seedlings with plenty of light and good air circulation.

Lisianthus seedlings grow slowly at first. Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged.

Avoid excessive heat during the early seedling stage. Very high temperatures can cause rosetting, where the plant remains as a low rosette instead of producing a normal flowering stem.

When to Transplant
