What Does Group I Mean?

The “I” in ABC™ Green I F1 means Group I (Group 1). Lisianthus varieties are divided into flowering groups to help growers select the right variety for different seasons and growing conditions.

Group I is an early-season group, particularly useful for production during periods with cooler temperatures and lower light levels. This makes ABC™ Green I a valuable choice for extending the Lisianthus cut flower season.

Premium Double Flowers for Cutting

ABC™ Green I F1 produces large, fully double flowers with a high petal count and strong stems suitable for professional cutting.

The elegant green colour is extremely versatile in floristry. It works beautifully as a soft focal flower or as a sophisticated neutral alongside white, cream, blush pink, apricot and pastel flowers.

Its refined flower form makes it especially attractive for wedding bouquets, bridal arrangements, romantic garden-style bouquets and contemporary floristry.

Exceptional Vase Life

Lisianthus is one of the most valuable cut flowers for arrangements thanks to its beautiful rose-like flowers and excellent vase life.

ABC™ Green I F1 can provide approximately 10–15 days of vase life under suitable conditions, making it an excellent choice for both home-grown bouquets and professional floristry.

Sowing & Germination

Lisianthus seeds are extremely small and should not be buried deeply. The pelleted seed form makes these tiny seeds much easier to handle and sow accurately, which is particularly helpful for beginners.

Fill a plug tray with a fine, moist seed-starting substrate. Place 1 pelleted seed on the surface of each cell and gently press it against the substrate to ensure good contact.

Do not push the seed deep into the substrate. Lisianthus requires light for germination. If desired, the seed can be covered with only a very thin layer of fine vermiculite.

Keep the substrate evenly moist throughout germination. It is particularly important that the pellet does not dry out after sowing.

  • Sowing: 1 pelleted seed per cell
  • Sowing depth: Surface sow; do not bury deeply
  • Cover: None or only a very thin layer of fine vermiculite
  • Light: Required for germination
  • Germination temperature: 20–22°C
  • Germination: Approx. 8–12 days under optimum conditions
  • Plug crop time: Approx. 8–10 weeks

After germination, provide the seedlings with plenty of light and good air circulation. Avoid excessively warm growing conditions and gradually grow the young plants cooler to encourage compact, healthy development.

Beginner tip: Lisianthus seedlings are very small and grow slowly during their first weeks – this is completely normal. Do not try to speed them up with excessive heat or fertiliser. Good light, even moisture and patience are the keys to producing healthy young plants.

Growing & Crop Time

ABC™ Green I F1 is particularly well suited to greenhouse and high-tunnel production. Plant into fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter and provide a sunny position.

Approximate time from transplanting to flowering:

  • Summer: 10–12 weeks
  • Spring / Autumn: 12–14 weeks
  • Winter: 14–18 weeks

Growing time will vary depending on temperature, light levels and local growing conditions.

For professional production, recommended planting density is approximately:

  • Summer: 84 plants/m²
  • Winter: 64 plants/m²
