Delphinium elatum Magic Fountains Cherry Blossom White Bee | Delphinium

Delphinium elatum ‘Magic Fountains Cherry Blossom White Bee’ is a beautiful perennial Delphinium from the compact Magic Fountains series, producing impressive upright flower spikes in delicate cherry-blossom pink with contrasting white centres (“white bees”).

The soft pink colouring gives this variety a romantic and refined appearance, while the white centre adds definition to each individual flower. It is particularly attractive for cut flower gardens, romantic borders and wedding floristry.

Magic Fountains combines impressive Delphinium flowers with a more manageable height of approximately 105 cm, making it easier to grow than many of the very tall Delphinium varieties.

Another major advantage is its FastraX perennial characteristic: plants can flower in the first year from seed without vernalization.

Romantic Cherry-Pink Flowers with White Centres

Cherry Blossom White Bee produces elegant upright flower spikes covered with soft cherry-pink flowers surrounding distinctive white centres.

The combination creates a delicate two-tone appearance that works particularly well in romantic and pastel colour palettes.

For floristry, this variety combines beautifully with white, cream, blush pink, apricot, lavender and soft blue flowers.

It is an especially attractive choice for wedding bouquets, garden-style arrangements and pastel floral designs.

How Long from Seed to Flower?

Under suitable spring growing conditions:

18–22 weeks = approximately 126–154 days from sowing to flowering.

Magic Fountains Cherry Blossom White Bee is a FastraX perennial, which means it can flower during its first growing season from seed.

Vernalization is not required for first-year flowering.

Flower initiation is promoted by longer days. A day length of more than 13 hours encourages flower initiation, while high light levels and warmer growing conditions can shorten overall crop time.

Sowing & Germination

Sow 2–3 seeds per plug.

Cover the seeds lightly with vermiculite. Light is not required for germination.

Under optimum conditions, expect radicle emergence in approximately 5–8 days.

For the first two weeks, maintain temperatures of approximately:

18–20°C

Once the cotyledons have fully expanded, temperatures can be reduced to approximately:

16–18°C

Keep the growing medium evenly moist during germination without allowing it to become waterlogged.

Growing the Young Plants

After approximately 8 days, begin allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

Good ventilation and air circulation are important for healthy young plants.

Once the cotyledons have expanded, provide strong light. A 14-hour day during the plug stage can encourage early root development and improve crop uniformity.

Before planting outdoors, gradually harden the young plants to full outdoor conditions.

Position & Soil

Plant in full sun to partial shade.

Delphiniums prefer a fertile, humus-rich and well-drained soil that retains sufficient moisture during active growth.

For seedling production, a substrate with approximately pH 5.8–6.2 is suitable.

Avoid permanently wet or waterlogged soil, particularly during cooler periods.

Watering & Feeding

Maintain relatively even moisture during active growth, especially while the flower stems are developing.

Allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings rather than keeping the root zone permanently saturated.

Young plants benefit from balanced feeding. During plug production, fertilization can begin at approximately 50–100 ppm, gradually increasing to 100–175 ppm as plants develop.

Avoid excessive fertilization, which can result in overly soft growth.

Excellent Cut Flower

Magic Fountains has been rigorously tested for excellent flower and stem quality as a cut flower.

Cherry Blossom White Bee offers:

Strong flower stems • Romantic cherry-pink colour • Contrasting white centres • Impressive flower spikes • Long vase life

For cut flower production, growth regulators are not required.

The variety can be grown for cutting in the field, under tunnels or in a greenhouse.

When to Cut the Flowers

Harvest when the lower flowers on the spike have opened while the upper section still contains unopened buds.

Place freshly harvested stems into clean water as soon as possible.

The upright flower spikes add height and structure to bouquets while the soft pink colouring makes this variety particularly useful for romantic floral work.

A Beautiful Variety for Wedding Floristry

The combination of cherry-blossom pink petals and white centres makes this one of the softer colour options in the Magic Fountains series.

It is especially suitable for:

Wedding floristry • Pastel bouquets • Romantic arrangements • Garden-style floristry • Pink and white colour palettes

The flowers also combine beautifully with roses, sweet peas, snapdragons, campanulas and other seasonal cut flowers.

Magic Fountains – Compact but Impressive

One of the advantages of the Magic Fountains series is its more compact growth compared with very tall Delphiniums.

At approximately 105 cm, Cherry Blossom White Bee still produces impressive flower spikes but is easier to integrate into smaller gardens and mixed perennial borders.

Its moderate height also makes plant support easier while still providing stems suitable for cutting.

In the Garden

Cherry Blossom White Bee is ideal for perennial borders, cottage gardens and romantic planting schemes.

Plant it in the middle or back of a border where its upright pink flower spikes can rise above lower-growing plants.

For the strongest flowering, choose a bright position with fertile, well-drained soil and consistent moisture.
