Echinacea Paradiso Yellow | Echinacea purpurea | Seeds

Echinacea Paradiso Yellow is a tall, first-year flowering perennial producing beautiful buttery to golden-yellow flowers on strong stems. Selected from the tall Paradiso Mix for its yellow shades, it combines the natural character of Echinacea with an unusual warm colour and is an excellent choice for cut flower gardens, perennial borders, naturalistic plantings and pollinator-friendly gardens.

The large flowers reach approximately 7.5–10 cm across and are carried on tall stems. Established plants grow to around 80 cm, although plants grown from seed may remain somewhat shorter during their first season and reach their full size from the second year onwards.

Paradiso Yellow can flower in its first year from seed when sown early and grown under suitable conditions.

Buttery-Yellow Echinacea

Paradiso Yellow stands out for its warm buttery-yellow to golden-yellow flowers, offering an unusual alternative to the familiar pink and purple shades associated with Echinacea.

The large flowers, approximately 7.5–10 cm in diameter, create a strong visual impact while retaining the natural, relaxed character that makes Echinacea so attractive in perennial gardens.

The yellow flowers combine beautifully with ornamental grasses and flowers in white, cream, apricot, orange, blue, purple and burgundy shades.

Tall Variety for Cut Flowers

Paradiso Yellow belongs to the tall Paradiso selection and is suitable for cutting as well as landscape use.

Plants can reach approximately 80 cm, producing useful stems for relaxed seasonal bouquets and natural garden-style arrangements.

First-year plants grown from seed may be somewhat shorter. Once established, plants can reach approximately 60–90 cm in subsequent seasons, depending on growing conditions.

A Perennial That Can Flower in the First Year

One of the particularly useful characteristics of Paradiso Yellow is its ability to flower in the first year from seed.

Allow approximately 135–165 days from sowing to maturity under suitable conditions. For first-year flowering, an early indoor sowing is therefore recommended.

Established plants return in subsequent seasons and develop into stronger, fuller perennial plants.

Sowing

Transplanting – recommended method

For the most reliable results, sow indoors approximately 8–10 weeks before planting outside.

Sow in a fine, moist and well-drained seed-starting substrate.

Germination temperature: 18–21°C
Germination: approximately 10–15 days
Light: Light is beneficial for germination.

After the first true leaves appear, transplant seedlings into larger cells or small pots. The supplier indicates this stage may occur approximately 30–40 days after sowing.

Harden plants off gradually before transplanting outdoors in late spring or early summer.

Direct sowing

Seeds can also be direct-sown in spring once the soil has warmed to approximately 18°C.

Sow 3–4 seeds together approximately 3 mm deep, then thin to the strongest plant after germination.

Autumn sowing is also possible. Natural fluctuations in temperature and rainfall can help stimulate germination.

Growing Conditions

Choose a position in full sun for the strongest plants and best flowering. Paradiso Yellow can tolerate some partial shade, but flowering is generally best with plenty of sunlight.

Echinacea performs well in average, well-drained soil and does not require excessively rich conditions.

Water young plants regularly while they establish. Once established, Echinacea is a relatively robust perennial, but prolonged waterlogging should be avoided.

Flowering

Paradiso Yellow flowers mainly from July through October, depending on sowing time, climate and growing conditions.

Regular removal of faded flowers can help keep plants attractive and encourage continued flower production.

For cut flowers, harvest stems when the flowers have developed good colour and are beginning to open.

For Naturalistic and Pollinator-Friendly Gardens

Paradiso Yellow is an excellent choice for perennial borders, prairie-style gardens, naturalistic plantings and wildflower-inspired areas.

The flowers attract beneficial insects and bring both colour and structure to the garden through summer and into autumn.

Because it is perennial, Paradiso Yellow can become an increasingly valuable part of a permanent cutting or ornamental garden after the first growing season.
