Trachymene coerulea Lace Pink | Lace Flower | Didiscus
Didiscus caeruleus Lace Pink, also known as Lace Flower, is a stunning annual or semi-perennial that produces delicate, lace-like flower heads in soft pink tones. Each airy umbel is made up of tiny, star-shaped blooms with a sweet fragrance, making it an excellent choice for cut flowers and floral arrangements. Easy to grow and care for, this elegant flower is perfect for borders, flower beds, and cottage gardens, adding a romantic and whimsical touch.
Key Features:
- Soft pink, lace-like flower clusters
- Mildly fragrant, ideal for cut flowers
- Easy to grow, tolerant of various conditions
- Height: 60-90 cm
- Flowering time: Summer, 110-120 days from sowing
- Best for: Borders, beds, floral displays, and bouquets
Sowing Instructions:
- Direct Sowing: Sow seeds April-May directly into finely prepared, rich soil. Space rows 30 cm apart, sowing seeds 1 mm deep. Lightly cover with soil and water. Germination occurs in 21 days at temperatures above 20°C. Thin seedlings to 20-30 cm apart when large enough to handle.
- Indoor Sowing: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Sow in trays filled with seed compost and cover lightly with soil. Seeds require darkness to germinate.
- Ideal Germination Temperature: 18-20°C
- Germination Time: 15-20 days
- Transplanting: Once seedlings are strong enough, transplant into 8 cm pots and grow on before hardening off and planting outdoors after the last frost.
Growing Instructions:
- Sunlight: Prefers full sun for best growth
- Soil: Thrives in rich, well-drained soil
- Spacing: 20-30 cm between plants
- Watering: Keep soil moist during germination. Once established, water regularly but avoid overwatering.
- Staking: May require light staking for support.
- Cutting: Regularly cut flowers to encourage more blooms and extend flowering. Deadhead spent flowers to maintain a tidy appearance.
Additional Notes:
- Maturity: Flowers appear approximately 110-120 days after sowing.
- Succession Sowing: For continuous blooms, sow seeds every 2-3 weeks.
