Celosia spicata Celway™ Terracotta | Wheat Celosia | Cut Flower

Celosia spicata Celway™ Terracotta produces upright, wheat-like flower spikes in warm terracotta and soft copper tones. Productive plants form sturdy stems with refined, textured plumes that blend beautifully into natural, autumn-inspired bouquets. An excellent choice for both fresh and dried arrangements. Pinching at the seedling stage is recommended to encourage branching and higher stem yield.

Slightly shorter than other colors in the Celway™ series, this variety is ideal for both fresh and dried arrangements. Pinching at the seedling stage is recommended to encourage branching and higher stem counts.

Sowing & Growing Instructions

Growing Info

  • Germination: 8–14 days at 21–27 °C
  • Sowing: Transplant recommended. Surface sow; light required for germination
  • Pinching: At ~15 cm height to encourage branching

Transplanting (Recommended):
Sow into 72-cell trays or preferred seedling containers 6–8 weeks before planting out. Light is required for germination—cover very lightly to hold seeds in place. Grow seedlings at 17–20 °C. Harden off and transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.

Pinching:
Pinch seedlings when plants reach approx. 15 cm to promote branching. Low temperatures and less than 12 hours of daylight may cause premature flowering.

Harvest & Vase Life

  • Fresh Use: Harvest when flower spikes are fully developed and stems are firm at the base.
  • Dried Use: Harvest at the same stage as fresh flowers. Remove foliage and hang upside down in a dark, well-ventilated space.
  • Vase Life: 7–14 days
  • Ideal Storage Temperature: 2–5 °C

Additional Notes

Pinching is not required for all Celosia types but is recommended for increased branching and more uniform flower size. Especially beneficial for C. cristata and C. plumosa, but also improves productivity in spicata types like Celway™ Terracotta.
