Ageratum houstonianum Timeless Mix | Ageratum
Ageratum houstonianum Timeless Mix is a tall annual Ageratum selected especially for cut flower production, producing long stems topped with soft, fluffy flower clusters in a harmonious mixture of blue, pink, red and white. Unlike compact bedding Ageratum varieties, Timeless Mix grows to approximately 70 cm tall, making it an excellent choice for cut flower gardens, flower farms, mixed bouquets and natural garden-style arrangements.
The long-lasting 2.5–5 cm flower clusters add soft texture and colour to bouquets, while the plants continue producing flowers throughout summer and into autumn. Timeless Mix is also attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.

Timeless Mix – Ageratum for Cutting
Many Ageratum varieties are bred as low, compact bedding plants, but Timeless Mix is a taller selection developed for field-grown cut flower production.
Plants reach approximately 70 cm, producing stems suitable for cutting and numerous soft flower clusters. The fluffy texture is particularly useful as a filler flower, creating volume without overwhelming the main flowers in an arrangement.
The mix includes beautiful shades of blue, pink, red and white, making it easy to combine with a wide range of seasonal flowers.
Excellent Filler Flower for Bouquets
The small, fluffy flower clusters have an unusual soft texture that contrasts beautifully with larger flowers.
Timeless Mix works especially well in mixed summer bouquets, cottage-garden arrangements, wedding floristry and natural meadow-inspired designs.
The flowers also have good longevity after cutting, making this variety particularly useful for growers producing flowers for bouquets and florists.
When to Sow Ageratum
For the most reliable results, start seeds indoors approximately 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost.
Ageratum is sensitive to frost, so seedlings should be planted outdoors only after the danger of frost has passed.
For a longer flowering and cutting season, 2–3 successive sowings or plantings can be made.
Under suitable conditions, Timeless Mix reaches maturity in approximately 80–100 days.
How to Sow Ageratum Seeds
Ageratum seeds are very small and require light for germination.
Sow the seeds on the surface of a fine, moist seed-starting substrate.
Do not cover the seeds with soil. Light aids germination.
Gently press the seeds onto the surface to ensure good contact with the growing medium.
Water carefully from below or use a fine mist so that the tiny seeds are not displaced or covered with substrate.
Maintain approximately 20–24°C and keep the surface consistently moist during germination.
Germination generally begins within approximately 7–10 days under suitable conditions.
Growing the Seedlings
When the first true leaves appear, seedlings can be transplanted into larger cells or small pots.
Provide plenty of light and good air circulation to encourage compact, healthy growth.
Before planting outdoors, gradually harden off the young plants.
Plant outside only once the risk of frost has passed.
Planting and Growing
Choose a position in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. In regions with particularly hot summers, Ageratum can tolerate some partial shade.
Space plants approximately 23–30 cm apart.
Regular watering encourages continuous growth and flower production, but avoid permanently waterlogged soil.
Timeless Mix naturally produces useful stems for cutting and does not normally require pinching or support.
Continuous Flowers Through the Season
One of the advantages of Timeless Mix is its long flowering period.
Plants can produce flowers from early summer until frost, depending on sowing time and local growing conditions.
Regular harvesting encourages continued production. For flower growers wanting a steady supply throughout the season, 2–3 successive plantings are recommended.
Harvesting for Cut Flowers
For fresh bouquets, harvest when the flower clusters are approximately three-quarters open.
Cut stems with clean, sharp tools and place them immediately into clean water.
Regular cutting helps keep plants productive and provides a continuous supply of soft, textural stems for summer arrangements.
Can Ageratum Be Dried?
Yes. Timeless Mix can also be used as a dried flower.
For drying, harvest when the flowers are fully open and hang the stems upside down in a dry, dark and well-ventilated location.
The flowers retain their characteristic texture when dried, although the colour may fade during the drying process.
Attractive to Pollinators
Ageratum flowers are attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, making Timeless Mix useful not only for cut flower production but also for pollinator-friendly garden planting.
The long flowering period provides repeated floral interest throughout the summer.
