Sowing Instructions

Start seeds indoors or in a greenhouse 8–10 weeks before transplanting.

Surface sow seeds in plug trays or seedling containers. Light is required for germination, so do not cover the seeds deeply. A thin layer of fine vermiculite can help retain moisture while allowing light to reach the seed. Maintain temperatures of 21–24°C (70–75°F).

Seedlings are ready for transplanting approximately 3–4 weeks after sowing, once the first true leaves have developed.

For the highest-quality stems, sow from late summer through winter and early spring for flowering during autumn and spring.

Growing Tips

Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or light partial shade.

For single-cut production, do not pinch plants, allowing them to produce one long, premium flower spike.

For multiple-cut production, pinch young plants when they have 4–6 true leaves or are approximately 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) tall. Pinching encourages branching and produces more flowering stems but delays flowering by several weeks.

Support netting is recommended to maintain perfectly straight stems.

Harvest

Harvest stems when one-third to one-half of the florets on the flower spike have opened. This ensures the longest vase life while allowing the remaining flowers to continue opening after harvest.
