Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Sensation Day Dream’ | Palest Blush Pink Blooms
Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Sensation Day Dream’ is a graceful, tall Cosmos variety with large, daisy-like flowers in the palest blush pink. Each bloom has a deeper rosy-pink centre that softly fades into the lighter petals, creating a delicate watercolour effect.
The plants are tall, airy and well-branched, producing elegant flowers on long stems that are ideal for cutting. The soft colouring makes ‘Sensation Day Dream’ especially beautiful in romantic gardens, naturalistic plantings and delicate summer bouquets.

- Variety: ‘Sensation Day Dream’
- Common name: Cosmos
- Plant type: Half-hardy annual
- Plant habit: Tall, upright, airy and well-branched

- Flower diameter: Approximately 7–10 cm
- Plant height: Approximately 90–120 cm
- Plant spread: Approximately 30–45 cm
- Position: Full sun
- Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil
- Use: Cut flowers, borders, cottage gardens and naturalistic planting
Sowing & Germination
Sow indoors approximately 4–6 weeks before planting outside. Sow one seed per cell in plug trays or individual seedling containers and cover lightly with growing medium. Keep at 20–22°C until germination.
After germination, move the seedlings to a bright, slightly cooler position. Harden off young plants gradually and transplant outdoors once all danger of frost has passed.
Seeds can also be sown directly outdoors after the last frost, once the soil has warmed. Cover lightly with soil and keep evenly moist until germination.
Growing Information
Choose a warm, sunny position with well-drained soil. Avoid overly rich soil and excessive fertilisation, particularly high-nitrogen feeds, as these may encourage lush foliage and delay flowering.
Pinch out the growing tip when plants are approximately 20–30 cm tall to encourage branching and increase flower and stem production.
Tall plants may benefit from horizontal flower netting or another form of support, especially in windy or exposed locations.
Regular cutting and deadheading encourage continuous flower production until the first frost.
Important Growing Note
‘Sensation Day Dream’ may flower later than many modern, early-flowering Cosmos varieties. In Latvia and other northern regions with long summer days, plants may produce abundant foliage during summer and begin flowering more freely as the days become shorter.
For earlier flowering, sow indoors in March or early April and avoid overly rich soil or excessive feeding.
Harvesting & Floral Use
Harvest stems when the petals are beginning to open but have not yet fully flattened. Cut during the cooler part of the day and place the stems immediately into clean water.
The delicate blush-pink flowers bring a soft, romantic quality to seasonal bouquets and floral arrangements. They combine beautifully with white, cream, soft pink and muted pastel flowers.
With its pale blush-pink flowers and deeper rosy centres, Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Sensation Day Dream’ brings a beautiful watercolour-like softness to the cutting garden and is especially lovely in late-summer and autumn bouquets.
