Zinnia elegans Fieldgrown Mix | Dahlia-flowered Zinnia
Zinnia elegans Fieldgrown Mix is a productive dahlia-flowered zinnia with large, full blooms in a vibrant mixture of colours. The densely arranged petals create the rounded, substantial appearance characteristic of dahlia-flowered zinnias, making this mix particularly attractive for summer bouquets and cutting gardens.
Growing to approximately 75 cm tall, the plants combine excellent flower production with good heat tolerance and a long summer flowering period. Regular cutting encourages new stems and repeated flowering throughout the season.

Large Dahlia-flowered Blooms
Fieldgrown Mix produces large, full flowers with densely arranged petals, giving the blooms their distinctive dahlia-like appearance.
Rather than a single colour, this variety offers a lively mixture of colours, creating plenty of variation for both garden displays and seasonal bouquets.
The substantial flower heads work particularly well as focal flowers and combine beautifully with smaller filler flowers and airy foliage.
Excellent for Cut Flowers
This mix is especially suitable for the cut flower garden. Plants reach approximately 75 cm and produce an abundance of flowers during the summer.
Zinnias respond particularly well to regular harvesting. Cutting mature stems encourages branching and stimulates the production of additional flowers, allowing multiple harvests from the same plants throughout the season.
Long Summer Flowering
Fieldgrown Mix flowers mainly from July through September, depending on sowing time and local growing conditions.
Regularly cut flowers for bouquets or remove faded blooms to encourage continued flowering and prevent plants from directing their energy too early into seed production.
Its good heat tolerance makes this zinnia especially valuable during the warmest months of summer.
Sowing Zinnia elegans Fieldgrown Mix
Sowing Indoors
For earlier flowering, start seeds indoors in spring before the last expected frost.
Sow in a fine, well-drained seed-starting substrate. A temperature of around 20°C is suitable for germination. Under favourable conditions, seeds can germinate in approximately 7 days.
After germination, provide seedlings with plenty of light and good air circulation.
Harden young plants gradually before transplanting outdoors. Plant outside only when all danger of frost has passed.
Direct Sowing
Seeds can also be sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed and the risk of frost has passed.
Choose a sunny position with prepared, well-drained soil and keep the seedbed evenly moist during germination and establishment.
Growing Conditions
For the strongest plants and best flower production, grow Fieldgrown Mix in full sun.
Choose fertile, well-drained soil and water regularly, particularly while young plants are becoming established and during prolonged dry periods.
Adequate spacing and good air circulation help maintain healthy plants throughout the growing season.
Harvesting for Bouquets
Cut stems regularly throughout the flowering season to encourage continued production.
Zinnias are excellent cut-and-come-again flowers – the more regularly suitable stems are harvested, the more the plants are encouraged to branch and produce additional blooms.
Remove faded flowers that are not harvested to help prolong the flowering period.
