Gaura Sparkle White | Gaura lindheimeri | Bee Blossom

Gaura Sparkle White is an early-flowering, naturally compact perennial producing masses of delicate white flowers on slender stems. The airy blooms rise above the foliage and move gently in the breeze, creating a light and graceful effect in borders, containers and naturalistic plantings.

Sparkle White is a particularly long-flowering and easy-to-grow variety. It is a first-year flowering perennial and, under suitable growing conditions, can begin flowering approximately 84–91 days (12–13 weeks) from sowing.

Compared with older seed-grown Gaura varieties, Sparkle White develops approximately 2–3 weeks faster. Its naturally compact, well-branched growth means no pinching is necessary.

Once established, the plants are durable and drought tolerant. Their compact habit makes them suitable for containers, while the abundance of delicate flowers makes Sparkle White equally attractive in flower beds, borders and pollinator-friendly gardens.

How to Start from Seed

Sow indoors in late winter to early spring for flowering in the first year.

Sow the seeds into a fine, moist and well-drained seed-starting substrate. Press the seeds gently onto the surface and cover only very lightly with vermiculite or a thin layer of substrate.

Keep the substrate evenly moist but not waterlogged during germination and place the seed tray in a bright, warm location.

Once the seedlings are established, provide plenty of light and good air circulation. Grow the young plants on until they are strong enough for transplanting.

Before planting outdoors, gradually harden off the young plants. Transplant after the risk of severe frost has passed, spacing plants approximately 30–38 cm apart.

Growing

Grow Sparkle White in a sunny to partially sunny position. It performs particularly well in full sun, where plants develop strong, compact growth and produce an abundance of flowers.

Choose a well-drained soil. Once established, Gaura tolerates periods of dry weather well and should not be kept constantly wet.

Sparkle White naturally develops a compact, well-branched habit, so pinching is not necessary.

Plants can also be grown in 10–15 cm pots, making this variety an attractive choice for patios, balconies and container displays.

Its combination of compact growth and good drought tolerance makes Sparkle White a relatively low-maintenance perennial for sunny borders and containers.

Long Flowering Season

One of the main advantages of Sparkle White is its long flowering period.

The plants continuously produce delicate white flowers over a long season, creating a soft, airy effect above the foliage. Removing faded flowering stems can help keep plants looking tidy and encourage an attractive display.

The numerous flowers also make Gaura a beautiful addition to pollinator-friendly and naturalistic gardens.

Garden & Container Use

Gaura Sparkle White combines delicate white flowers with a compact and durable plant habit. It works beautifully planted individually or in groups and adds movement, lightness and texture to garden compositions.

It is particularly suitable for:

  • Sunny perennial borders
  • Flower beds and edging
  • Patio and balcony pots
  • Naturalistic planting
  • Pollinator-friendly gardens
  • Mixed perennial containers

Gaura Sparkle White is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for a long-flowering perennial that is compact, drought tolerant and easy to grow from seed. Its delicate white flowers combine beautifully with ornamental grasses and flowering plants in pink, lavender, blue, burgundy and soft pastel shades.
