Amapola adormidera | Papaver somniferum

Discover the timeless beauty of Papaver somniferum, one of the most impressive and effortless annuals for summer gardens. With their large, silky blooms and statuesque presence, breadseed poppies add movement, colour, and an unmistakably romantic feel to borders, cottage gardens, and naturalistic plantings.

Because they form a deep taproot, Papaver somniferum must always be direct-sown. Simply scatter the seeds in autumn or early spring, let winter or cool spring weather work its magic, and soon you’ll enjoy striking flowers followed by decorative seed pods loved by florists.

This collection celebrates the diversity of Papaver somniferum — from classic single blooms to frilly doubles and rare colour variations ideal for modern garden design and cut-flower work.

Beautiful Papaver somniferum flowers showcasing their silky texture, with poppy seed pods in a vibrant garden backdrop.
