What Makes Takii Fieldgrown Mix Special?

Fieldgrown Mix is more than simply a colourful mixture of zinnias. Its main appeal is the combination of large dahlia-flowered blooms and excellent suitability for cut flower production.

The approximately 75 cm tall plants produce large, densely double flowers that make beautiful focal blooms in bouquets. The abundance of closely arranged petals gives each flower a full, substantial and luxurious appearance.

Fieldgrown Mix comes from the Takii Seeds range, making it an interesting choice for gardeners and flower growers looking for seed from a professional horticultural assortment.

Large Dahlia-flowered Blooms

Fieldgrown Mix produces large, densely double flowers with numerous closely arranged petals, creating the rounded, full form characteristic of dahlia-flowered zinnias.

As a colour mixture, it produces flowers in a variety of shades, creating a diverse harvest for summer bouquets and colourful garden displays.

The substantial blooms work beautifully as focal flowers and combine especially well with smaller cut flowers, ornamental grasses and airy filler flowers.

Excellent for Cut Flower Production

Fieldgrown Mix is particularly suitable for the cut flower garden.

Plants grow to approximately 75 cm and produce numerous flowers throughout summer. Regular harvesting encourages branching and stimulates the formation of additional flowering stems.

Zinnias are classic cut-and-come-again flowers – regular cutting encourages plants to continue growing and producing new blooms.

This means the same planting can provide multiple harvests throughout the flowering season.

Long Summer Flowering

Fieldgrown Mix flowers primarily from July through September, depending on sowing time, climate and growing conditions.

Harvest flowers regularly for bouquets. If flowers are not being cut, remove faded blooms before the plants direct too much energy towards seed production.

Regular harvesting and deadheading encourage new shoots and buds and help extend the flowering period.

Fieldgrown Mix also has good heat tolerance, making it particularly valuable during the warmest part of summer.

Sowing Takii Fieldgrown Mix Seeds

Starting Indoors

For earlier flowering, start seeds indoors in spring before the last expected frost.

Sow into a good-quality, well-drained seed-starting substrate. A temperature of around 20°C is suitable for germination. Under favourable conditions, germination can begin in approximately 7 days.

After germination, provide seedlings with plenty of light and good air circulation.

Zinnias are frost-sensitive, so transplant outdoors only when all danger of frost has passed.

Gradually harden off young plants before planting them in their final outdoor position.

Direct Sowing

Fieldgrown Mix can also be sown directly outdoors once the soil has warmed and all danger of frost has passed.

Choose a warm, sunny position and keep the soil evenly moist during germination and early establishment.

Growing Conditions

Fieldgrown Mix performs best in full sun.

Choose fertile, well-drained soil and avoid consistently waterlogged conditions.

Water young plants regularly while they establish. Consistent moisture is also beneficial during prolonged hot and dry periods.

Adequate plant spacing and good air circulation help maintain strong and healthy plants throughout the season.

Harvesting for Bouquets

Harvest flowers regularly throughout the flowering season.

Frequent cutting encourages branching and the development of new flowering stems. This continuous production is one of the reasons zinnias are so valuable in cut flower gardens.

If a flower is not harvested for a bouquet, remove it once it fades to encourage the plant to continue producing new blooms.
