Campanula medium Champion Lavender F1 | Bellflower | Pelleted Seeds

Campanula Champion Lavender F1 produces soft lavender, bell-shaped flowers on tall, sturdy stems. The blooms deepen in colour as they mature, adding delicate shades and texture to garden borders and bouquets.

Unlike traditional biennial Canterbury bells, Champion can flower in the first year from an early sowing. Plants develop multiple flowering stems from the base, making this variety a beautiful choice for cutting gardens and cottage-style planting.

Soft Lavender Flowers for Bouquets

Champion Lavender produces graceful bells that bring a distinctive shape to floral arrangements. The lavender colour combines beautifully with white, cream, blush pink, apricot and deeper purple flowers.

Its upright stems add height to mixed borders, while the branching habit provides several flowering stems for cutting. Support netting helps keep the stems straight in cutting beds and windy locations.

First-Year Flowering

Early indoor sowing allows plants to flower during their first growing season, without waiting for the second year typical of traditional biennial bellflowers.

Allow approximately 120–150 days from sowing to flowering. Timing depends on temperature, daylength and growing conditions. Young plants need sufficient time and root space to establish before flowering.

Sowing & Germination

Champion Lavender F1 is supplied as pelleted seed, making the naturally tiny Campanula seeds easier to handle and sow accurately.

Sow 1 pelleted seed per cell onto the surface of a fine, moist, well-drained seed-starting substrate.

Do not bury the seeds. A very light covering of vermiculite helps retain moisture while allowing light to reach the seeds.

  • Sowing: Indoors for transplanting
  • Sowing Time: Approximately 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost
  • Sowing Depth: Surface sow
  • Seeds per Cell: 1 pelleted seed
  • Cover Seed: Very lightly with vermiculite
  • Germination Temperature: Approximately 18–20°C
  • Initial Germination Stage: Approximately the first 10 days
  • Plug Crop Time: Approximately 5 weeks under suitable conditions

Keep the substrate evenly moist but not waterlogged. Thoroughly moisten the pellets at sowing so their coating can dissolve. Do not allow the seed surface to dry out during germination.

After emergence, provide bright light and good air circulation. During early seedling development, maintain approximately 20–22°C, avoiding excessive heat, irregular watering and heavy feeding.

Transplant promptly before seedlings become root-bound. If outdoor planting must wait, move them into deeper individual pots. Harden off gradually and plant outdoors after the risk of frost has passed.

Growing & Care

Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Space plants approximately 25–30 cm apart to allow branching and the development of multiple flowering stems.

Water consistently, especially after transplanting and during dry periods. Avoid prolonged waterlogging and severe drying. Feed moderately with a balanced fertiliser.

Once plants are established after transplanting, cooler growing temperatures of approximately 13–15°C support good-quality growth.

Pinching is not necessary. Install supports early to help protect the tall stems from wind and heavy rain.

Campanula responds to daylength. In professional production, an initial period of short days followed by longer days helps balance plant growth and flowering. For home growing, early sowing and healthy, unstressed seedlings are particularly important.

Harvesting & Vase Life

Harvest when a few bells have opened on the stem. Cut during the cooler part of the day, remove the lower leaves and place the stems immediately into clean water.

With proper harvesting and care, flowers can last approximately 10–14 days in a vase. Use cut flower food, keep the vase clean and place arrangements away from direct sunlight and heat.
